For centuries the Trade Winds, which the French call the Alizé, blew the sailing ships across the world's oceans enabling trade routes to establish across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, hence the name "Trade Winds".
Trade Winds blow predominantly from the northeast in the Northern Hemisphere and from the southeast in the Southern Hemisphere, strengthening during the winter.
