Surely you can...yes I use the tweak tool for the sphere...I work on a Mac..not sure but maybe Inkscape for Mac has a more stable version?...Once when I had similar problems I chance for a previous Inkscape version...that seemed more usual to me...and it worked good.
I think so....when the design gets a lot of lines Inkscape still works very slowly here...it's a real PITA....have to get a lot of patience with that program....but it's fee so I can't complaint...hehe
