I once sold fine gemstone jewelry, during which time I became fascinated with the powers and meanings of gems. Those two qualities, along with color, influence my choice of favorites.
Sapphire — Sapphire is a symbol of love and purity and of loyalty in relationships. What I love best about the gem is that it “vibrates to the universal energy”—i.e., its qualities can affect you without your conscious involvement. Sapphire also—
• Calms the mind and focuses thinking
• Opens the mind to beauty and intuition
• Sparks inspiration and creativity
• Transforms negative energy into positive
• Breaks up spiritual confusion and helps you stay on your spiritual path.
I’ve had my own experience with sapphire’s universal energy. One day, I accidentally wore a sapphire ring while gardening. Though I hadn’t intended to, I got involved in redesigning the garden and worked like a madwoman all day moving plants to create my vision. Only when I finished did I realize I had been wearing the gem. It had, indeed, sparked my creativity and focused my thinking.
Amethyst — I think of amethyst as the “everywoman” gem. I prefer deep shades because they feel so mystic to me. Like sapphire, amethyst has the universal vibration. It is a highly protective stone—especially against addictions and overindulgence. But most of all I like amethyst because of how it relates so well to women. For instance, the gem—
• Encourages love and bestows wisdom
• Puts you in touch with your intuition
• Promotes emotional centering
• Brings calm and clarity where there’s stress, anxiety, guilt or confusion.
Amethyst also boosts hormone production and balances highs and lows. Now if that doesn’t prove it’s a woman’s gem, I don’t know what does!
Tanzanite — Deep-colored tanzanite is hard to find and very expensive, but I prefer the lighter shades anyway. While I don’t have many clothes that I can wear the gem with, I love it when I can. I especially love pairing tanzanite with pink sapphire. Tanzanite has a strong spiritual energy, as it—
• Raises your spiritual awareness and makes you sensitive to psychic experiences
• Reveals the sacred duty to be your own self rather than live by others’ expectations.
• Nurtures inner exploration
• Helps you understand why things are happening in life.
Tanzanite is a recently discovered stone. It comes exclusively from Tanzania and was introduced to the world by Tiffany’s in the early 70s.
Diamond — Good Lord, who doesn’t love diamonds? They sparkle and gleam like no other stone, and they are, by far, my most favorite gem. One thing I especially like about diamond is that it’s highly absorptive, which enables it to clear anything shrouding your inner light. The gem is used in engagement rings because it—
• Is a sign of commitment and fidelity
• Brings love and clarity to a partnership
• Enhances the love of a husband for his wife
• Bonds relationships.
Diamond, too, strongly influences the mind and spirit. It also enhances the power of other stones when used together. So, whenever you need extra energy from a given gem, add diamond to the mixture and let the magic happen.
Topaz — I love the vibrancy of topaz, which comes in many shades, including pink, blue, and yellow. I mostly wear the blue topaz. Topaz is a truly joyful gem, whose energy repels negativity and creates a spirit of hope. It also—
• Helps you discover your own inner riches
• Makes you feel confident, buoyant, and giving
• Inspires creativity and self-expression, making it outstanding for people in the arts.
This gem also has much spiritual energy to impart. It brings about trust in the universe and promotes the desire to develop inner wisdom. But most of all, topaz just makes me feel good!

Hehe!! And what do you mean by universal vibration and what are those that have it? Does emerald have it? Cuz I own an emerald and a white opal and a very small blue sapphire a white sapphire, some jasper, an amethyst, and a diamond... I need to test them!

I have to chuckle that you're going to test the gem's energy, especially in light of our recent correspondence. Just remember that tanzanite isn't a gem with a universal vibration—i.e., you have to put some effort into connecting with its energy. Find a quiet place, gaze into the gem, keep it close, and let your mind wander. And let me know if it works!! Love...
