Here's a step-by-step. Let me know if it helps, ok?
1. Go to your palette or pattern page.
2. Look in the right sidebar. In a box titled, "Share this Palette," you'll see the Twitter and Facebook icons, and below them, the badge code, and below THEM, a little section called, "Get this Palette Image". In that section, there are two options that will work for your Pinterest board: "Preview" and "iPhone".
3. Click on either of those, and you'll be taken to an image page that has nothing on it but the palette.
4. Pin it!
Also, for my last project, I decided to try using the Delicious.com Stacks feature. It's got its own limitations, but it was still very handy for saving and sharing visual links. PLUS, you can add Colourlovers palettes there directly! No need to work from the preview image (so anyone clicking will go to the page with all the info, rather than the lonely little color box :-)
Here's the test I did: http://delicious.com/stacks/view/U6u9j5#m=grid
This will be a temporary link, since I was just plunking around. I'll delete that test stack in a couple of months.
PS: Thanks for loving American Quilt III, and welcome to CL!
