I am in love colors, always have and always been. I don't use them in traditional ways through. I believe accents can be neutral and larger images rich with color, it create more depth and shadow for my eye. I tend to pick colors that are rich and deep and supple that match the texture of whatever it is that I am choosing… A purple feather would be out of place, but put a purple feather along side or in a group of acorns and colorful leaves… it's beautifully accented and becomes the focus of the collection, whether on purpose of as a simple whimsy of accidental collecting.
I make journals and I use colored paper and covers to help with the purpose of the journal, an anger journal- dark reds and blues and even some greens that will help a person to focus the anger and release it without getting a feeling of violation or contempt. The green helps to settle the emotion and helps to even it out… to release it and let it be when the writer has finished expressing the words that need to be written (for example).
A gratitude journal would be vibrant purples and blues and then some highlights of pastel yellows and greens… for thanksgiving and a return to the natural order of life and the world we live in. It's worked well for me and I have adopted these colors from experience, not from the psychology of the color, but rather from the what is needed to remain in balance and to curb strong emotions. I LOVE COLORS.
