You see, I just like to sound smart most of the time. I really am not educated properly about the environment. I know people that care deeply about these things, but never really bother to find out why. But for some reason, obviously, I do not think that these passions are that important or else I would actually take some interest in it and try to at least see if I agree with it or not.
But we all need a passion, do we not? Vida’s response left me pretty silent, outside of some hesitant, breathy, staggering utterance of, “Oh! Ha! Yeah, of course!” But yet, passions make us come alive. Granted, some of the things people are passionate about make them come alive to the wrong things. And these things no longer become passions, but rather slave masters that conquer their victims and lead them to lives of despair. But yet, there are so many great things that we can be passionate about. There are so many things that can ignite us to be things that are great.
So I encourage you to allow yourself to be passionate. I encourage you to tame your passions so that you own them, not vice versa. But I also encourage you to make your passion be a means to an end. To my Brothers and Sisters: Do all that you do for the single end of the glory of God. Hone your skills, whatever it may be – writing, athletics, humor, listening, computer programming, teaching, leading, following, serving – so that it will make God look great. Know that the only reason that you are able to do what you do is because God has been merciful towards you by sending His Son to die so that you would not have to face His wrath. To my friends who do not share my faith: Ask yourself where your skill will end. Why are you doing what you are doing? I encourage you to remember that all people will one day die, and you will be left with your trust. What will you trust in?
Finally, to all of my friends, I encourage you to remember what Vida said.
