I never really know what to see in "info" or "about me" boxes, so I tend to write too much about how I view the essential topic(s) of the website...and then delete it a few days later because it's probably weird :-)
The following info is a "summary" of the Smurphilicious Color Philosophy.
Colors are one of the most important aspects to human experience. Even in a world where more and more societies emphasize technology, economics, sciences, etc., colors continue to provide the context and cues from which all human decisions are made and activities pursued.
A person's self-concept frequently includes identifications with specific color combinations that represent a part of life they perceive as relevant.
This type of "color relationship" relates individuals to a larger group, where colors represent the group and individual's can use and wear those colors as a representative of that group. Examples of the explicit use of 'individual-group' 'color-connections' include color combos that represent nations, teams, high schools, gangs, etc. Examples of the subtle use of color combinations to identify with a group include color choices for clothing, cars, interior decoration, furniture, etc.
A second type of color relationship is how colors create ambience, provide experiential undertones, and influence individuals' cognitive processing and behaviors. For example, a room that has subdued colors will be more relaxing than a room with bright, busy colors. A room with soft color transitions will feel calm and fluid, whereas a room with sharp, contrasting color transitions will force your brain to remain active as it will continue to "reconfirm" the "non-importance" of the additional stimuli outside of awareness. Although it is true that sense receptors can "tune out" a constant stimulus, the eye or any sense organ that is moving continues to be "activated" as a result of the changes between the sensory receptors and the stimuli. If there are too many contrasting colors and sharp transitions, the result will be too much distraction and increased stress level. But the beauty is good color combos and color transitions it can be very helpful to enhance productivity and focus in conference rooms, meeting spaces, etc.
Finally, my favorite color topic relates to using colors to enhance the experience of an audience and information assimilation. Intelligent use of colors on written, creative, and theatrical works will direct the audience to what they are supposed to see and thus, enhance their viewing/reading experience. People do not need to "appreciate" colors to be influenced by them. For example, yellow and red are gold standards for advertising. Our eyes are automatically drawn to yellows and reds. People tend to use yellow highlighters for the same reason: yellow is a bright, eye-catching color even if you hate it. And that is exactly what is so fascinating about human-color-connections.
