Wow! the list is quite long, but I'd like to suggest Louis Wain. His stuff is kind of kitschy but interesting.

@@!!!!............wellll now, I'm not sure what to make of Mr. Wain, but hey! If we can embrace dogs playing snooker why not cats on acid??

Ole' Louis sure liked his cats huh, still I guess there are worse things for someone in the grip of a full psychotic break to fixate on.... Like say, axes or ball-peen hammers......or skinning people alive maybe.....

Can't wait to see which images people choose, the 'full-on 240 volt psycedelic plugged into the mains moggies' or the 'run of the mill puss in boots, shirts, ties and braces caught in a satirical but whimsical vignette cat nextdoor'?

....and I think I spotted a full costume re-enactment of the boxer uprising complete with impending decapitation!! Quite the social historian and chronicler of his times...

You got me started laughing... I came across Louis when I was looking for vintage Christmas card images and I just couldn't stop looking at his stuff. Like a circus side show. (now I'm totally politically incorrect) But- mental health issues are so common in creative people and his work presents a very graphic illustration. If van Gogh was obsessed with cats who knows what he may have produced.
