In regard to creating a spiral in Seamless Lite, this is what I did: You'll need 12 concentric circles in various graduated sizes, each more or less fitting inside each other. Then (picture the 4 points on a compass) move each group (of 3 circles each) so that they just barely 'kiss' each other. Then change the biggest circles colour in each group to the background colour. This will start to create a spiral. Repeat this procedure on the 3 remaining sets of graduated circles.
It took me about 2+hrs to figure this out and the result's not perfect (to say the least) but it's OK.
See: http://www.colourlovers.com/shape/31392/pinwheel (shape) and http://www.colourlovers.com/pattern/3776754/roses.2 (pattern)
The above isn't a fool proof recipe for creating a spiral; it will take some trial and error on your part to achieve satisfactory results.
Good luck!
