I am right there with you on the learning. It is taking me a while to get used to making shapes and templates.. slowly getting there ;)

Part of my evolution. Start with simple shapes to get a handle on how the pattern templates work then try more complex shapes as one learns. Still a long way to go but I thought I'd just have a go.
