And thank you for your wonderful reply! I'm willing to try most craft-type hobbies, self-taught with lots of "try this to if it works". I know I learn more from my mistakes than the easy-to-learn things, sometimes ways to do something that "isn't supposed to work like that".
That approach to hobbies comes from my profession: I'm an engineer - a software designer - retired since 2000. I miss it at times, especially the wonderful people with whom I was privileged to work. In many ways, craftwork & hobbies fill in for personal satisfaction & mental challenge of ny profession. And, I'm finding new friends who share the same interests, like here on ColourLovers
The painting with tiny seed beads sounds intriguing. I'm sure the results are quite lovely! I'll have to look into a bit, to see what's involved in doing it & if I might enjoy ita myself... as if I don't already have too many craft projects going on at the same time, plus my online time! Ah, well! Who needs sleep anyway!?
I did not have the opportunity to know my Grannies-in-law, just mothers-in-law. I was quite pleased - and blessedly lucky - to have such wonderful women as mothers-in-law! They were both strong, independent women, who taught me much, by example more than any other way They are both gone now; I do miss them quite a bit. And, as you, I'm the Granny now!
Growing up, I only had one Granny too, and did not really have the opportunity to interact with her much. My mother did not get along with my Dad's parents all that well, despite having lived with then while my Dad was in Europe during WWII. I only met my Mother's Mother once ir twice; she died when I was about 5 years old.
I'm sure I shared way to much personal info, which I'm sure you are not interested in reading! I do enjoy reading about whhat other kinds of crafts my online friends are doing.
Take care! If there is something you need for a hobby that is difficult to get where you are, please ask. I may be able to help you find it more easily here in the U.S. or online.
Take care!
Becky
