grandma once brought her handmade basket of goods, but since stuff always fell out through the weaving, we put a cloth inside. A few of us would poke through the holes between the basket so that the cloth won't spill out the contents. the orange being the basket, and the red being the borders of the cloth.
It was fun then. and this is a fun pattern. usually something like this would appear to me as "line-y", but good memories make for good colors! (which make for positive, long, story-telling comments... sorry) =D
