I saw a whole field of eryngium in Central Texas one time, vivid purple, purpler than this one, and more pointed. We stopped the car, and I wanted to pick one. Well, you really almost need a chainsaw. My then boyfriend gallantly hacked himself (and one representative sample) down with a bowie knife and presented it to me, bleeding, and we continued on towards home. Not 30 miles later, all the purple had faded away.
