What’s Crafty on Etsy This Week: Shades of Winter

As we move into mid-November, it’s officially time to declare my favorite time of year: cooler temperatures and long coats, multicolored scarves, gloves, and hats to go with it! It’s a great time to redecorate the home, change the colors of your bedroom, or go shopping for a new sweaters for yourself, the kids, or possible Christmas gifts…who knows what you may find?

This week on What’s Crafty on Etsy, we’ll look at all kinds of fun items for winter to help you get yourself into the spirit.

If you like modern design but feel white walls are just too plain, perhaps I have just the thing for you. Etsy user designedDESIGNER has a variety of wall decals for sale to suit rooms of all sizes and colors.  This set, called “Birds in the Urban Forest”, comes with six trees, birds and loose leaves for you to arrange as you wish. The price beats wallpaper (which is so last century anyway). If you have a baby’s room to decorate, there are some precious options as far as that goes as well.

When I think of handmade scarves, I always think of a solid piece of fabric with contrasting patterns. However, I loved this unexpected and joyful piece, which takes pom-poms of many shades and brings them together for a vibrant dash of color that will surely bring something special to any outfit. There’s also lots of the standard but always useful fare at the SEDECIMO shop, such as this “Am I Sheep” scarf, which weaves together shades of chocolate, cream, rose and periwinkle with lovely results.

I find I wear a lot of browns, greys and blacks not only in the fall months, but all year round. To help my clothing from bringing on a case of seasonal depression, I often add a scarf, earrings or a brooch for a pop of color. Etsy artist Brigite has some excellent pieces for just that use, made by hand with Merino wool and pyrite gemstones. These brooches are about 4.75 inches in width and can be customized, and some have multiple colors, which makes for an even more striking presentation.

I notice that a lot of people wear very plain gloves once it gets cold, and I wonder why that is. Gloves are a terrific way to accessorize, and can do the same thing the aforementioned scarf or brooch can do when it comes to enhancing with color. North Carolina-based crafter ZenandCoffee makes fingerless gloves in every style, including the fantastic flower-patterned ones shown here. According to her profile page, custom orders are welcome as well.

Now, I know you’re probably shaking your hands in the air and squeaking over how sweet this baby looks if you’re anything like me, but get a hold of yourself for a second here. Your little one’s cold too, you know. And being a great deal smaller than you, he or she can probably get away with this precious bear hat. SavvySnapsPhotograph has all kinds of stuff to keep your infant looking sweet as can be while staying warm, including owl hats, frog hats, and the bear hat you see here.

Now everyone’s feeling fashionable, but best of all, warm too! Thanks for reading What’s Crafty on Etsy this week, and look out for a holiday guide to Etsy coming very soon!
