Ugh. I am so sorry Gabs. It totally sucks.

I'm on that DollieCrave site again, rounding up links to all of the CL patterns used without credit and all of a sudden, one of Sunmeadow's patterns pops up (with a dolliecrave.com watermark, no less.) This was a blow to the stomach.

In case anyone reading this doesn't know, Suzi (Sunmeadow) passed away earlier this year from complications due to a neurological disorder. During the last months of her life, she struggled with many everyday movements, including sitting up and being able to use a computer. When she was able to, she created patterns.

Stealing pisses me off, period. But to steal from someone who struggled and used the last of her strength to create something beautiful to share with the world...that goes way beyond.

DollieCrave may not have known of Suzi's illness and passing; she probably didn't even know of Sunmeadow's existence. She probably doesn't know that Suzi was someone we all love so much and her patterns, colors, palettes, and our memories are all we have left and we cherish them dearly.

Behind all things we find on the Internet is a human being with a life and a story. When we take something created by another person and label it as our own creation, we don't know the pain we're possibly causing another, very real human being to experience.

Treat and respect everyone, even strangers on the Internet, as we would want for ourselves.

Sidenote: Wanna know the semi-humorous side to the DollieCrave business? She made a big deal of making sure people know she is a Christian, yet she apparently hasn't read a Bible because "Thou shalt not steal" is one of the Ten Commandments, a fundamental set of rules in the Christian religion.

When you put it that way it makes me even more angry. All those people who claim to be ''good' and whatever other characteristic they say are usually the worst ones.

I beat you to it, Meimei. And I had to verify too but apparently my email was sent. Here's mine:
I had the unpleasant surprise of finding tons of my patterns and other Colourlovers.com users patterns on this page credit-less and a lot of them with your watermark which I found very distasteful. All Colourlovers patterns have Creative Commons rights and are made by people who put a lot of effort into creating them only to have disrespectful people taking them.

I'm reporting this to the Colourlovers staff and I'm not the first user to had this surprise on your page. The staff will get in contact with you.

Could we get a list of the ones you have found so far and get their originals together? I think that may help for us to see.

Either you are completely unaware of your own terms and conditions or you're blatantly lying.

From the terms and conditions of your own website:

This website contains material which is owned by or created us. This material includes, but is not limited to, the design, layout, look, appearance and graphics. Reproduction is prohibited other than in accordance with the copyright notice, which forms part of these terms and conditions.

Oh and this is what a watermark is used for:

A digital watermark is a kind of marker embedded in an audio or image signal, typically used to identify ownership of the copyright of such signal.

I'm not trying to be nasty or degrading, but I would strongly suggest learning more about licensing, copyrights, and what you should and shouldn't do before opening a design website. Otherwise, you're going to be in for a lot of legal trouble.

Lastly in my defense, I make no claim that artwork found on my site is copyrighted to me, they are copyrighted to their respective owners. The watermark on background images merely signifies a link back when users use a theme and remove the link back.

Regarding the terms and conditions of my website, I must confess it was last updated on 07/16/10. I should have updated it as often as I update the footer and I will update it later.

And thank you for the advice. I'm here to resolve this issue and will entertain only legitimate posts in regards to images that belong to colourlovers.com

If I said it it's because I've seen them here. Most of the plaid ones are made from a CL template and colored by different users. All the patterns of the list had been checked and I really doubt those ''online tools'' can create this amount of identical patterns all with the same hexes and identical color position.

If she is reading this, I'd like to say:
An apology to the COLOURlovers community on your website would be nice. Your other visitors needs to be aware of the situation because they were unknowingly using stolen property when they utilized the uncredited, watermarked COLOURlovers images on their blog and Twitter accounts.
