How's this for a plot line of a fictional story...
Wealthy mayor of large city caught on tape smoking crack and being a dick. Mayor makes absolutely no public comment about the video or incident. Video goes on sale but no news agency wants to pay the exorbitant price, so it's only viewed by a few people in the media. They publish the story and swear up and down the video appears authentic. A week or two later, a media agency finally raises the money to buy the video, but now the video and it's owner have disappeared. Mayor finally does a press conference saying "what video? there's no video." Video owner found dead, his bank account searched to find a large deposit sourced back to the mayor. Isn't fiction interesting?
