Wow, you can get IceFalcon's Quest in hardback for $0.01 plus shipping, heck, all the books in the series, there's a deal.
I linked it in the text on the end... it's on amazon. It's like #4 in a series, but you can read it on its own. Cold Death is a female shaman of the Talking Stars People, who are sort of Viking/Aboriginals on this other dimensional planet. She's pretty much invisible unless she lets you see her. The Darwath series books were kind of cult favorites of sf convention people in the early 90s, including me. Barbara Hambly has gone on to write more mainstream mysteries, (plus lots of tv show credits, some Star Trek novelizations etc. ) and largely left Sf/Fantasy, except for the occasional vampire story. Sadly.

*New vampire novel due out in March, looks like.
