Yes! And I especially love that they haven't gone down the old route of making John less clever in order to make Sherlock seem moreso. Freeman's John is possibly my favourite; he's the brave, handsome, slightly dangerous and very much equal Watson of canon, not the bumbling sidekick.

Ah, I think that's there we disagree! I know he's incredibly far removed from the Mathematics Professor in the books, but I quite like Moriarty. It adds an extra dynamic to the character and, personally, I think the ease with which he switches between the camp, flirty Jim to the cold, psychopath we know and love is terrifying. I believe he's the only Irish actor to have played Moriarty, though, despite the blatant Irishness of the name.

And I was incredibly disappointed by the film! For starters, Downey Jr doesn't even look like a Sherlock! He's small and he's not thin or angular enough. And his relationship with Adler took the predictable Hollywood route - despite it being explicitly stated that Holmes was never, ever interested in sexual matters.

I too was very happy when they didn't make John a lack wit. He's supposed to represent the everyday man so that the audience can relate, but that doesn't mean we need to make him stupid! The man's a DOCTOR after all. He has to have some brains. XD

Moriarty's switches weren't very subtle though. I've had a bipolar teacher and it was very... different. The mood swings were subtle as the baseline always seemed the same, but it was the communication that would flip the switch. One minute she would be happy, the next accusing everyone of disrespecting her. It was surreal because she had it all validified in her own mind. This Moriarty didn't feel that way to me. I think the actor needs to read up on Mr. Worth- the real life basis or Moriarty. :)

Yeah, the film was terrible if you tried to make it Sherlock Holmes. If you didn't, it was actually quite fun. (Note: I am a hard core Holmesian. I HAD to ignore that it was called Sherlock Holmes or I would have killed someone. Thus, I say it's just some random detective...)

Yes, I love how the feel and acting sticks to canon, yet the tone is modern! A very well done production! (With the sole exception of Moriarty, who struck me as a little too out of character.) The movie that was recently put out I can only stand if I think of it as some random detective running about in a steam punk Victorian world... After all, he's certainly not Sherlock Holmes. XD That's why I'm so happy about this series. It's so very Sherlock. :)

Ah, I know! I adore it so much so I just had to make a palette based upon the series. I think the fact that it's been brought right up to date but is still incredibly loyal to Doyle's canon is what makes it so brilliant. It just translates so, so well. And Brett's Sherlock was amazing, I agree!

^_^ I too have been watching the new Sherlock, and I must say I approve. :D (First one I like since Jeremy Brett!) Awesome palette for the series. :)
