I've read your discussion from the link and I think we use the same technique. I agree with you, it's interesting to search "right" colors amid a fix quantity of them and try to manage it. That's why I love to create 1LP palettes. I don't yet tried to do the CSL, but it's comming =)

I think gradients made with 'restrictions' - like here for 1LP, or CSL make lovely palettes! - the near perfect 'imperfection' is a real +
That's why I try to do them when playing CSL (like here)
