Cooperative Project POSTPARTUM :-)

Showing 1 - 6 of 6 Comments
This is a place to take a conscious look at what we learned in the last project, and what we want to learn more about as Creative Folks. Tackling questions like this at the end of a project is a great way to step up your growth!
(This is not a Venting Thread!)

Here are some questions to get you going. Answer all or just one, or share something completely different about what you learned/want to learn:
What was really the most fun for me in this project?
What did I learn about designing for fabric?
What do I wish I had done differently?
What do I want to try next?
What did I learn about color?
What did I learn about pattern?
(...I learned that I wanted to participate? :D)
Actually, I can't wait to read what people have to say. Let me live vicariously, guys!
I was still messing with the post layout when I saw your quick response! I have yet to add mine—working on an update letter to the group :-) I just want to say to anyone that didn't actively participate, that I am convinced you were present, and part of this project, even if you didn't physically contribute—the energy was amazing!

I LOVED feeling the excitement from the group as we reached different stages of the project -- the growing number of patterns; Patterns appearing in the group profile on Spoonflower; sundancer's photos of the printed swatches; The quilt becoming a quilt… and ketisse's meeting with o2bqueen!

It was also fun to create the header graphics for the project and for our Spoonflower account :-)

And… I also had a lot of fun working within our color framework. It really helped me move my motif ideas forward.

What did I learn about designing for fabric?
I started to understand scale better, as in how scale works on a quilt, versus a shirt, versus a pillow case, etc.

What do I wish I had done differently?
I wish I had made my "heart stripes" thicker. They look so spindly to me! I did actually thicken them once, but it really wasn't enough.

What do I want to try next?
I want to try designing for fabric that won't be used as fabric is normally used. For example, the decorated phone… but even more, something that would go, say on a door, or a book…?

What did I learn about pattern?
I think I learned to "start bolder". I tend to want to be understated, but I'd like to try starting at "too much," and working backward. :-)
• What was really the most fun for me in this project?
I was there at the beginning and at the end. I enjoyed watching the suggestion take off and be championed by everyone. That was really my only contribution. Writing about the experience and interviewing sundancer was a lot of fun, too.
But the best part for me had to be the honor of receiving the quilt and delivering it to the queen. I was so happy to see it with my own eyes and hold it with my own hands.

• What did I learn about designing for fabric?
N/A
• What do I wish I had done differently?
I wish I had found the confidence to create and/or submit my own template. I could have done it and I knew it wasn't a contest but I never felt my contribution would be strong enough.
• What did I learn about color?
Watching and hearing how the colors came together in a group project was enlightening. Some of the colors were more popular than others. Next time, we can consider asking for multiple versions of each pattern with 3, 4 or 5 rotations of the colors in any 5-color palette.
• What did I learn about pattern?
N/A - I backed away from the project during this segment because of what I wrote before.
• What do I want to try next?
(let me get back to you on this)
