A group to display and discuss palettes and patterns made from the "Clown" concept.
Clown palette was first made with the idea of representing a clown's face.

* The middle color representing the nose should stand out from its' adjacent colors.
* A Clown style Palette has 3 different hues.
* 2 of the hues appear in both a dark and a light shade of that hue.
* Clown patterns are either based on Clown Palettes or representing a clown's face.
* Please tag your Clown creations with [CPD]

CLOWN PALETTES [CPD]

THE BEST GROUP IN THE HOLE WHORLED!!

Great!! I'm honored to have been part of this.. 'clown movement' :D
Thanks for inviting me!

Maybe it's easier if we explain where the name comes from?

Clown palette was 1st made with the idea of representing a clown's face (palettes representing something are called picture palettes - there are some here)

Take a clown's face and draw a line un the middle part - then stretch it:
Clown_Face

Like ketisse, specialized in 1 Lover clown palettes (check out her 1LP palette here) , said we can use the terms:
left ears,
left cheeks
nose and
right cheeks
right ears

for each colour
Thanks so much for contributing, ycc!

I'll put this in the description:
Clown palette was 1st made with the idea of representing a clown's face (palettes representing something are called picture palettes - there are some here)
Tell me if you need help. For example to make badge
Also, a tag? [CPD]?
Or why not a smily tag for a change? [oOo] (oOo) I like (oOo)
(you need minimum 3 letters to be able to search, brackets don't count )
There's a How To Tag page here

Tags will enable to make highlights, see which one is most loved...

Also an example of what is not a clown palette could be useful
Like these - Are they clowns?
Primal_Dragon20th_Century_Fox_TPKHairplane
If you want to make a badge I'd be most grateful!
Oooh I like the (oOo) smiley! Perhaps [CPD] is easier to remember though.

Descriptions and such for this group may change while this group is in the developing phase. Bear with me :)

hmmm.. I think there's a chance Colourlovers have good visual memory

Also, I think using the smily tag includes a bit of an explication all ready
+it's fun, makes you want to add it! (well me it does =P)

What picture do you want on the badge? what colors? (circus colours! red+white/yellow for clown is good)
Palettes should go Dark-light-dark-light-dark
but if it's very dark in the center it dosen't look like a clown (eg: this one)

I think it's important to define the range of what is a clown palette... I'd say in the above the last 2 can be considered clowns...
What do you think?
You've convinced me! (oOo) it is!

Use my clown pattern image if you like. Or some other happy picture, I don't want the It Clown :O Circus colors are perfect!

Yeah, I'd say the last 2 are clowns too.

What do you think of the above badge?
I left it in it's own comment so you can copy the code by clicking 'reply'
I love it!!!

There's an issue with the (oOo) tag though. When I search with the Clown smiley as a keyword it returns all kinds of palettes containing 3 o's in a row in the title, and not just the ones tagged (oOo) e.g. z o ooo oom!, To ooo babe, etc.
When I search cpd, I get only my own Clown Palettes as the result.
Hi Nim,

Here are some of my notes about Clown Palettes:

Basic - colors 1, 3 and 5 are darker and colors 2 and 4 are lighter using any combination of hues

Inverse - colors 2 and 4 are darker and colors 1, 3 and 5 are lighter

Designer - from our previous discussion - in the description/guidelines for this group

Neon - extremely bright colors in either the 2 and 4 positions or the 1, 3 and 5 spots

Monochromatic - same hue, varying saturation and brightness distinguish the 1, 3 and 5 colors from those in the 2 and 4 positions.

Around the color wheel - hues are choses at 5 points around the color wheel that are of approximate equal distance from one another.

Let me know if you choose to incorporate any of these descriptions in the group and I'll submit those palettes, too.

Good thinking!
I'll change to CPD and put the code to copy (the reply system doesn't seem to work for all CL servers around the world)

>> COPY PASTE CPD BADGE CODE

We'll need examples - I was wondering about those with black or white noses, how about them?
eg:
Lady_Bug

Maybe things will settle as time goes by - (though a minimum of limits need to be defined or it can be nearly any palette that's not a gradient!)
the "The Best Group in the Hole Whorled" refered to the SPLONK group
it has a badge like this
SPLONK THE WORLD! =D
THE BEST GROUP IN THE WHOLE GALAXY!

=)
Finally found the 'Clown palette" template in COPASO - added the tag and the badge! =)

Now that I think about it, how about simply saying: "Clown palettes are palettse where the nose stands out (the middle color)"

It's the cheeks, one slightly darker than the other that gives this impression.
I've now changed the description and the guidelines to better describe the Clown concept. The group is now open for the public!
Let the Clown Movement begin!!!

Much happiness and Love to you all!

Through this may not work for all browsers, I though it could be fun if we could preview our palettes as clowns - so I saved a transparent GIF we could apply on top of the palette preview like this:

Oldfashioned_3D_CPD

>> Here's the code
Replace the 'REPLACEWITHYOURPALETTEPREVIEW' text with your palette preview link/URL
You can find your palette preview link/URL here (screenshot)
The palette preview link/URL looks like this (click)

PS: If your palette had widths, your preview will also. So you'll need to remove it.
This is a tutorial for something else but it explains near the top what you need to remove from the preview link/URL to remove the widths : How to combine several palettes into one file

Colorsonsky_1LPIn the comment below is an other example, this so you can see the code with a real palette preview URL
Click the reply button to see the code

Question: Does anybody not see the palette behind the clowns face? If so, what browser are you using?

.
Neat! Works fine for me in Google Chrome, but not in Internet Explorer 8.

My_First_Clown

Edit: Works in Firefox 3.5.6 as well. (yes, I have 3 different browsers installed. yes I'm a nerd.)
GREAT!!
Thanks for telling me!
I know it work in mac browsers! =)
now that you told me this, there can also be CL restrictions... they have many servers and I know they don't all react the same - hence I now wonder if the problems there.
(I once wrote white text with an image BG like this and received a note saying it's all white... person was going though an Asian CL server... never found out what browser.)
