March is Women’s History Month, and to show our appreciation to all the women who color in our world, we’re sharing amazing work and colors from women all month. Today for your color inspiration is the cut acrylic work of Sandra Fettingis, whose recent exhibition filled with neon colors, ‘this time things will be different‘, at Plastic Chapel in Denver, closes March 5th, 2011.

My work draws from influences as far ranging as photographic portraiture, art deco design, modern and contemporary architecture and colorist ideas.
Combining humanistic interest with a love of design, my work draws from influences as far ranging as photographic portraiture, art deco design, modern and contemporary architecture and colorist ideas. I’m interested in discovering the backgrounds and harmonies in people’s lives; portraying individual characteristics through graphic representations.
Currently, I am exploring patterns and their complicated integration through our conscious and subconscious psyche. By using design as a loose metaphor for thought, and material as strata for being, my work expresses the beauty and contradictions of our complexities. My primary medium – cut acrylic – is clean, manufactured, and industrial. However, the patterns cut into it and the colors present stand in contrast to these qualities by individualizing the mass-produced material.

Cut acrylic is part of the amazing art of precision laser cutting – how these detailed designs are made. Sandra definitely takes it to the next level with her sensational design work. She also has an etsy shop that produces not only wall pieces, but cut acrylic jewelry. There are a number of artists and sellers on Etsy.com producing mainly jewelry, pendants and supplies for scrapbooking. Sandra Fettingis is definitely the top of the crowd though.
