The Interpretation

by You Work For Them

A work of art that explores the relationship between nature, motion and sound, The Interpretation takes us on a languid journey through a slowly flourishing forest. Hinting at vague memories of microbiology and rotating through a cool organic spectrum of greens, blues, browns, blacks and whites; this motion-based work will entrance its viewer as the forest evolves. The Interpretation is set to a minimal score filled with authentic sounds of nature, complimenting the environmental essence of the visuals.

Taking the incredible crayon sculptures of Diem Chau, melting them, and then rolling the film backwards, the rainbow pools of wax climb back up into works of art. – shape+colour

Music Video for A Lull’s ‘Skinny Fingers’

Illustration & Animation by Nigel Evan Dennis | A Lull

Chicago has a crazy good art/music scene that’s leading to amazing work from artists who are not only creating music but directing vids, designing posters, and creating their own visual identities to match with the sonic ones. Alongside the work of one of my Chicago faves, Chandeliers, comes music from artist/designer Nigel Evan Dennis (aka Electric Heat) who on top of all his design work is also a member of A Lull, who are getting ready to drop their first EP “Ice Cream Bones” on May 19.

The vid for their first single, “Skinny Fingers”, illustrated and animated by Dennis, is nothing less than incredible. Chromatic, slow-shifting, and graphic. Loves it. Needs more of it. – shape+colour

Black Rain

Created by Semiconductor

Black Rain is sourced from images collected by the twin satellite, solar mission, STEREO. Here we see the HI (Heliospheric Imager) visual data as it tracks interplanetary space for solar wind and CME’s (coronal mass ejections) heading towards Earth. Data courtesy of courtesy of the Heliospheric Imager on the NASA STEREO mission.

Working with STEREO scientists, Semiconductor collected all the HI image data to date, revealing the journey of the satellites from their initial orientation, to their current tracing of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Solar wind, CME’s, passing planets and comets orbiting the sun can be seen as background stars and the milky way pass by.
