Whimsical Watercolor Portraits
Watercolors afford artists the ability to create whimsical portraits, where colors blend together and give the painting increased depth. I believe watercolor art is a powerful way to express emotions, thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. These watercolor portraits have a certain strength to them that shines beyond the paper.

As the saying goes, you only have one chance to make a first impression. When you’re marketing a product or service, if your landing page doesn’t make a great first impression then it’s unlikely that visitors will return, much less use your product. Good landing pages show off the product, sell it’s benefits and do a good job of leaving the visitor with the impression that it’s well designed. Great landing pages, on the other hand, do all this and also stick in your memory – they stand out and are remarkable.
Of course, this is much easier said than done – how do you create a landing page that’s remarkable, and memorable while still being beautifully designed instead of garish? One of the ways in which you can do this is to focus on creating a tastefully bright, vibrant and colourful design. Use a bold, daring colour palette – or use subtle, muted colours but with bright, impossible-to-miss contrasts on the buttons you want users to click (like the “sign up” or “try the demo” buttons).
The use of colour in landing pages is an art form in itself, and we’ve brought this collection of designs together to help give you some inspiration for your next landing page project. We hope you find the collection useful and entertaining.

Viximo is a company that works with developers to get their games published online. The landing page stands out instantly by using big, bold illustration and the muted colour palette grabs attention without being too garish.
A Tasty Goodnight: After Dinner Sips & Sweets
The grand finale of our virtual dinner party is here! True hospitality rarely ceases at dessert; it extends into small sips and bites that leave guests feeling calm, content, and pleasantly plump. The colorful juxtaposition of a warm, glowing digestif and the light palate cleansers of pastelled sorbets has the potential to create an incredible canvas of color.

Seasonal fruits, like juicy orange mangos, ruby red raspberries, and deep yellow pineapples, can add a flavorful collage for the cherry on top of your meal (literally). And finally, a soothing peppermint tea or bittersweet milky cappuccino keep the cheerful dinner table conversation going.
Let the après-dinner conclude your evening as a soft, sweet goodnight, but not a goodbye--the beauty of feasts is that we can delight in them time after time.
Thanks for taking the time to indulge with us. Until we meet again, à bientôt!

Mapping the Colour Narratives of Movies
Previously on this blog we've seen a pretty cool visualization of the history of colour in movie posters. Today we bring you another awesome visualization, but this time from a different angle.

Spotmaps is an on-going project to map the colour narratives of various films. Based on Brendan Dawes' Cinema Redux, each frame's colour is sampled and a spot of average colour is produced from the combination of one second's frames. The visualizations span from films dating back to 1923 through present day and they already have quite the collection to explore.
Here were some of our colourful favorites from the database.
Decadent Desserts: Sweet Treats from Around the World
A bright bowl of fresh-picked summer berries. The rich, dark stream of molten chocolate from a lava cake. The delicate colors from the creamy base to the caramelized top of a Crème brûlée. Desserts around the world never cease to amaze us here at Forkly--the detail, the depth in colors, the genius and creativity that come to life. When dessert arrives, the table falls silent, guests gasp at the beauty in unison, and with mouths watering, they prepare for that first bite of sweetness to balance out the savory feast before it.

Adriana joined COLOURlovers back in 2011 and fell in love with making pattern templates. You really get a sense of her skill and her passion in her winning entry from contest, Colour Love. We really love it when talented community members get recognition for their work and what's even cooler is you can now buy Adriana's great patterns and sport them on your very own iPhone, Kindle, iPad, or whatever your device of choice may be.
In addition to the contest winner, you can also choose from two of her other designs. Just check out the kaleidoscopic goodness from her GelaSkins portfolio.

Exquisite Entrees: Colors from the Earth to the Sea
Incredible how creatures of the sea can camouflage themselves in the depths but captivate us with their vibrant colors when paired with earthy vegetables, legumes, and grains. For your second course (here's the first, if you missed it!), we've decided to highlight this lovely balance of earth and sea.

We’ve included two dishes from avid Forkly-ers, Chef Rodrigo De La Calle of Aranjuez, Spain and Chef Alessandro Ricciardi of Florence, Italy. Chef De La Calle’s creations focus on “Gastrobotánica,” a new wave of cooking that emphasizes the use of uncommon plant species for delicate, artistic dishes. Chef Ricciardi works with flour and natural yeast concentrating on impastazione, or, “making the dough” into beautifully textured dishes with contrasting reds, purples, greens, and such, depending on the ingredients of the season.
As is our reaction to many of the chefs and food enthusiasts on Forkly, we wish we could hop on a plane just to try a bite!
