Post-It Note Art + Photography
There is so much you can do with post-it notes. Aside from being the perfect size to write small notes on, they are also a key player in some less than traditional art pieces. The hot pink wall accents lend a colorful touch to an already pink art piece.

Stitched Paper Trends
The number of things you can do with paper never ceases to amaze me. Stitching stationary is a new favorite that people have begun to get awfully creative with.
Today's article is presented by the printing services company, Next Day Flyers.

Stitching stationary is one thing, but stitching ruffles, garlands and fabric is a whole other. These sweet cards definitely take more time, but I think it definitely makes the cards look so much better.

Stitched holes like the "hello" card are so fun.
Weddings are another time I see a lot of stitched paper. From favors to invitations there are tons of different things you can do with thread and paper.
Of course stitching is a fabulous way to get festive for a birthday or holiday. Stitched wrapping paper looks amazing. The balloon garden is a great way to make a party more festive (you can use any shapes and have stitched garlands for any occasion.)
Here is a tutorial on how to stitch on paper and make it look like the photo below.
If you are familiar with sewing, you might get the hang of stitching on paper faster, but it definitely isn't as easy as it looks. Since the paper is stiff, it doesn't give like fabric gives. With anything, the more you do it the better you will be at it.
Making Design & Typography Great With Embossing Techniques
There are so many ways to treat paper to give it that extra pizazz. One great way to give paper products that extra kick is by embossing the text or the design to make it that much more interesting. Embossing is the art of raising paper for a decorative touch and these embossed designs will give you some great inspiration for anything from design to branding.
This article is presented by the glossy booklet printing company, Next Day Flyers.
Embossing text is a great way to allow the text to be read while remaining the same color. From wedding invitations to business cards, this is a fabulous treatment that can be added for a different look to any piece of paper.
Wedding invitation design can be done in plenty of different ways, and embossing is a fabulous way to do something a little different with the invites for your big day.
Everything from an embossed logo to embossing shapes can add a little something special to your branding. This technique can be done with so many different designs to make your paper products a little extra special.
Aside from getting paper embossed customly, it is also something any crafter could do very easily to give paper a little something special. Below is a great example of getting a custom stamp made and easily raising the ink to make it a little more special. Not only that, the colors and designs are endless!
Branding is a very important part of any business, and putting a little extra money into creating something memorable will definitely go far when it comes to the first impressions of that company. Here are some great ways that logos and branding collateral are done just right with the embossed touch.
No matter how you use the technique of embossing, the added touch will definitely be noticed and your brand, wedding invitations or just about anything else will be fabulous and awesome with embossed typography.
The Art of Saying Thank You
The art of saying thank you is not only a nice gesture, but also a fun reason to buy a fabulous card to make sure you say thank you the right way. From letterpress to a quirky fun card, or best of all a handmade card from the heart.

This thank you box is the perfect gift for any of those close friends around you, for your wedding party, or for your family. Finding the perfect card alongside a small gift is a great way to say thank you to those loved ones. I love this collection of goodies and the packaging is so well-designed.
There are some great resources out there if you don't feel you can do it yourself, but if you do want to try your hand at designing a personal thank you note, consider this a little bit of inspiration for fonts and color palettes.
Stamping is a trend that i just love the look of. The imperfect and faded ink is something I just love to see. And with the many different stamp options, you can create any type of card for any occasion. But if you aren't a fan of crafting your own cards, plenty of people out there love to make new cards with stamps every day.
Finally we get to the fabulous trend of letterpress. Simple type and simple design will go along way when done with letterpress. This is such a nice touch to a greeting card. Though it is a little more expensive, letterpress can go along way in making a fabulous impression.
To end off saying Thank You in style, let's go with a colorful card like this chevron patterned thank you card.
Saying thank you might be the simplest point of manners out there, but saying it in style with a bit of an artistic touch is something that will be noticed and appreciated by anyone on the receiving on.
Decking Out Your Resume
I'm sure everyone knows that having an impressive resume can sometimes be the deciding factor in whether or not you land a spot at your favorite company. With so many resumes hitting employers desks these days, the first step is to get your seen by the right people to give you that fighting chance.

It goes without saying that some employers might not jump at the chance of having a resume sitting on their desk in the form of a milk carton, but the up side to such a resume is that you are sure to get noticed.
It doesn't take drastic actions such as that to impress your new potential employee, but creating a clean, well-designed, and easy-to-read resume might be all it takes to get them to notice you and consider you a candidate.
With so many people on the hunt for a job these days, adding a bit of personality often times give your potential employers enough reality about who you are. And if they like what they see, you could jump ahead to round to.
This is also a great time for you, especially as a designer, to show off some of your skills right then and there.
Just like with business cards, your first impression has to be something worth looking at. I have always been a fan of the sewn business card, but this resume with a sewn detail on some awesome fabric is another cool way to stand out and show off your personality a little more.
Do you have the whole package? Show it off with more than just a piece of paper.
Of course, landing a job really comes down to the right fit for you and the company, and a resume isn't 100% going to be the deciding factor, but presenting a well-prepared and unique resume gives you the best fighting chance at getting your body of work seen by the people who could be your future employers. Giving them something something to talk about and something that they don't see dozens of times in a given day will at least come as a breathe of fresh air and something they will definitely remember.

Today we are interviewing Jessica Sprague, design guru and owner of JessicaSprague.com. In February, Jessica is heading off a four week Poster Design course. She is also giving away not one, but TWO seats to this really awesome class! I couldn't be more excited about the class after taking Jessica's Subway Art class. I'm a busy mom, so I don't have a whole lot of time to join in a live class, which is why I love Jessica's classes- they are self-paced and available forever!

Can you tell us about yourself, how long have you been designing? Teaching? Do you have a job outside of JS.com?
In my former life I was a web & user interface designer for a software company, so I've been designing in some form or another for about 14 years. I started teaching digital scrapbooking, Photoshop, and graphic design in 2007 when I opened JessicaSprague.com. Since then it is my full-time job, and I love it!
What three (or less) singular colors do you most identify with, why?
My favorite color is green - I love it in almost all of its shades from lime to olive. It's the color of growth and regeneration, of calm energy, of prosperity, learning, balance, and harmony.

If you had to describe yourself [currently] as a five color palette, what colors would they be? Could you provide me with HEX codes so I can create a JS palette for you? :)
I feel like I am a blue, two greens, and a red, coupled with a dark grey. Hex: aed835, d9ea65, 81c9c0, a90c19, a90c19
The greens I've already described. The blue is an ocean representing responsibility, stability, trustworthiness. The red represents fire and emotion, and the dark grey brings some gravity, but also represents the dark that balances the lighter, fresher colors.
If you could be a shape, what shape would you be? (i.e. a polygon = triangle, hexagon etc...)
I would be a 5-pointed star. :)

I was highly impressed with the presentation of the calendar. It was delivered in a nice silver tin with a branded paper wrap and a wonderful opening letter about the project and the Haft2 mission - I felt like I had just received a very nice gift!

Haft2 is giving away three calendars to some lucky winners on a fun challenge (see bottom of post). I would like to add that I just so happened to come across this project originally from the comments on our previous post about 2012 Calendar Print Trends. I just had to know more about it, see the real deal and get to know what Haft2 and Jason were all about. I'm sure glad I did.
The 2012 Calendar: An Awesome Print Trend
Finding great calendars can sometimes be a challenge! So many people resort to the cute little cuddly cat or puppy calendars you find at the local store. While those calendars may be cute, they lack sophistication, and lets face it... style!

When I was younger, and when I say that I mean, before I had kids, I carried a beautiful Franklin Covey planner. It was pink leather, and I had a messenger bag to match. In my previous life I was the marketing director for a travel company. I had meetings and weekly conference calls, I was, important. When I had kids I found it difficult to justify my beautiful Frankly Covey planner to schedule play dates and carpools! That's when I found Brenda. She created these beautiful pages, that are so fresh and clean.
Printed Calendar|Downloadable Calendar
While this calendar is from 2010, Brenda offers other downloadable and printable pages like: things to do, shopping, scrap/card sketch, notes etc. and they all coordinate with the calendar pages. Each month is embellished with a gorgeous tree on the bottom corner of each page. Notice how the leaves on the tree change to coordinate with the season? I love the clean and simple design. It's too bad Brenda decided against making a calendar for 2012.
