Artist Profile: Emily Clayton

Bomb and Small Bomb. Enamel, paper, and cigarettes.
Sometimes an artist's body of work as a whole inspires a unique take on color. Such is the case with collage artist Emily Clayton. What's engaging about Emily's work is that she doesn't use much paper; instead she favors paint, plastics, resins, enamel, and fabric. Depth is created by pairing a limited color palette with surprising objects and materials in endless finishes, it yields work that is at the very intersection of painting and sculpture.

Gorgeous photo of Emily in front of her work (pooch is unnamed) from Mule Magazine interview with Emily & her hub Chris Roberson. Shot by Sarah McKemie.

In Orange Pour and Orange Pour #2, the color quite literally oozes off the canvas in a shocking swath of shiny neon enamel. They're as interesting from the side as they are from the front.
