And just to let you know, I looked at and loved several variations of this pattern earlier, and never noticed the broken tail until you mentioned it, since I was too caught up in how beautiful it looked everywhere else. :)

It's not only you - you have to imagine the lines finishing square at the "end-dot" - ( in adobe illustrator you have the options to choose how lines end)
So you just need to add an extra, over lapping the previous line. - better use the arrow keys as they snap into the closet one
- hum.. yeah. I say this but: I did this for the tail... still broke.
Also check these out - these are 'nicely broken', they change according to the color you use! I wish to manage one day...
