Description
What is repoussé?
It is an ancient metalworking technique, still commonly used today, in which negative portions of designs are created by hammering the reverse side of a thin plate of metal. It is also known as embossing. When you flip over the repousséd side to look at the other side, you will see the raised repoussé designs.
After working repoussé on one side of the metal (jewellery, for example) it is flipped over and "chasing" is used. Chasing is an engraving technique, used in conjunction with repoussé.
The results of both techniques can be quite beautiful.
So...can you imagine this zinnia pattern in repoussé on copper, then with some chasing?
