Daisy, I'm an engineer, not a judge or copyright lawyer. I'm not here to argue for or against your points. I'm here to colour. If you feel people's rights are not adequately represented on this site, I'd advise talking to the site owners, not to me. My guess is that CL doesn't have a plethora of lawyers on retainer to delve into these matters, but I've seen that they do listen to concerns, and address them to the best of their ability.

I'm glad you like the pattern Daisy :) My earlier comment was just to tease Ola.....you will see in an even earlier comment that I did credit her wonderful palette.
Sure colours matter, but I'm certain this GelaSkins contest was simply set up to encourage template making. No one is going to get rich off this contest. Commercial gain will be minimal. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of iPhone covers available, so 5 more won't make a big impact.
Recognition is nice, but it's not really a big deal either, it's more or less for ego...if a palette or template designer is relying on a single palette or template they created to shoot them to stardom, they probably need different meds.
One of Prax's designs was plastered in extremely large scale on a NYC skyscraper a couple years ago. I think it was there for a few months. Might still be there? Tens of thousands of people undoubtedly saw it. She's still here playing around on CL, so I don't think it had much impact on her life.
At least two of my palettes are used outside of CL on commercial websites (that I know about). It was nice to be asked first and really nice that one of them credited me on their site, but honestly, with the variations in people's tastes, the palettes might be turning away more people than they are attracting.
In the big scheme of things, one template or one palette isn't going to change anyone's life. Instead of being concerned about a palette maker potentially losing a couple dollars, I prefer to be happy that the contest is producing more template designers for all of us enjoy at CL.
Please don't thank earlgrey.....that just encourages her to do more....and with more of her palettes floating around, mine in comparison look rather homely!
