The L’Ouled Nail is a semi-nomadic tribe in Algeria whose women were famed for being sent out, at a relatively young age, to earn money for their dowries through belly dancing and sometimes even prostitution. The gold coins which they earned are evident in this painting. --stancliffeandglover.co.uk
