I didn't know (or had forgotten) about the Haymarket Massacre in Chicago. What a horrible event, and something that should not be forgotten or taken for granted. Although we have "Labor Day" in the US, observed on the first Monday in September, in my experience it's viewed as just a day off work for most people, creating a long weekend, and not especially connected to worker's rights or the labor movement.

Thank you for the lesson. You've given me something to think about.
