This picture was misapplied to an article about the Thames River, by implying that it "could" be this polluted, but didn't say what was. I found the correct link about the most polluted river.

One of the cleanest rivers in Europe now stands amongst the most polluted. River Thames, England was once the darling of every tourist who visited the land, yet the Thames of today is a glaring example of how we are disturbing the ecological and environment balance of the atmosphere and in a way harming ourselves and the rest of the living species.

River Thames remained cynosure of every eye for a long time, but the heritage of the river seems to be diminishing. After heavy and incessant rains and flooding, the once beautiful river has given way to a river full of sewage effluents that is increasingly becoming a health hazard for the marine life as well as the human population. Untreated sewage flowing into the river has choked the clean, beautiful river and resulted in toxic algal bloom. Passing nearby the river is nothing less than toxic that results in nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or abdominal pain.

When we think of River Thames, we are reminded of the anthologies written on its beauty. Such poetry will remain embedded in the poetry books if the river is not taken care of now. It is high time the London authorites gave it a serious thought to protect the river from further contamination, else the day isnt far when Thames will be only seen as an open sewer. Moreover, with global warming fast hovering over us, the ecological balance once disturbed will be a thing of the past. A legacy that will be carried into our generations, who will be witness to the hazardous effects of the once beautiful, serene Thames.
