Hey All!!

I just graduated and was sworn in with Court Appointed Special Advocates [CASA] (Child Advocates in Houston, TX.. CASA nationally) as a 'Court Appointed Advocate with Child Advocates.

We are Court Appointed to cases as Guardian Ad Litem to the Child.. these children have been removed from their home by CPS because of abuse or neglect.

It is our job as the Guardian Ad Litem to determine the best interests of child. We make recommendations to the court as to where the child should be placed permanently.

We visit with the child, the parents, teachers, doctors and anyone who can help us learn about the child and his or her best interests. We make sure the child has everything they need while they are in temporary care.

Often, we are the only person who stays with the child throughout the whole process... because CPS workers often change throughout the case, and lawyers do not have enough time.
