Like a lot of people, I imagine, I got my start appreciating the subtleties of color through my box of 64 crayolas. I had this one picture of a futuristic city that my mom would make dozens of copies of and I would color it over and over again in different combinations of color. I'd lay out all the blues, for instance and test each one until I found the shade I was looking for. Blue-Green and Red-Orange were early favorites for their vibrancy. It's amazing how much that influence has stuck with me still. Sometimes I'm laying in bed trying to fall asleep and a palette will pop into my head (the result of playing on here so much!) and I will try to remember it, so I can make it the next day. It's the old Crayola associations that help me remember what I was going for. It's not just light green I need, it's more like a Spring Green. Or the pink needs to have a little orange in it, like Carnation. Periwinkle and Sky Blue are very different! Just thinking about it makes me very nostaglic! ![]() ![]() |
