Added on 9 February, 2008 InspirationI absolutely adore old maps... there is something incredibly thought-provoking and reflective in pouring over old maps and seeing how people thought the world looked hundreds of years ago, seeing the globe from their perspective and what they must have thought their world to look like and how much they had explored and discovered with time. nnMaps progress from grossly inaccurate to slightly more so, to near-perfect and then to explored and satellite mapped. To me, satellite mapping and perfect computer renderings of maps are a separate matter altogether, as they are generated and pinpoint accurate representations of reality rather than one person's interpretation of the world they live in. Maps nowadays have little to no artistic value, and the aim is to present factual information rather than to give the viewer an idea of what the world means in their day and age. DescriptionNASA's blue and white and green and black maps are accurate and clear and perfect, but it is the old hand-drawn and beautifully artistic maps that really catch my eye and keep me enthralled. The faded and yellowed paper, the brown hand-drawn ink lines, the light blue shading in the water and the soft green of the land, with the dark capital letters in beautiful handwriting. These are what I think of when I think of a map :) Inspiration Linkhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
