Retirement — I retired early in 2001, and most of my guilty pleasures stem from that retirement. I feel I really should be working so we can save more money for when my husband also retires (12 years from now, when I’m 73). But I just can’t bring myself to commit to a job.

Shopping — I’m addicted to online-shopping, and I do it a lot. That’s probably the last thing I should do, since we’re living on one income. Nonetheless, I love searching for things to buy and finding great bargains.

Daytime TV — I’m not a soap-opera fan, but occasionally I do take an afternoon and watch movies or recorded shows. In conjunction, I usually eat and often fall asleep. How lazy can one get, right?

Smoking Cigarettes — Except for a two-year hiatus, I’ve been smoking for 43 years. It’s my ultimate guilty pleasure, but I’m definitely paying the price in terms of my health. I know I should quit, and I plan to do so this year, after losing about 40 pounds. Wish me luck!!

Carefree — You’d think that since I’m retired I would spend a fair amount of time doing chores and taking care of the house. But I don’t. We have a maid service twice a month, my husband does the laundry, and I manage the house and do the cooking (but not every night). I feel especially guilty about my freedom because my husband works incredibly hard and long hours. He’s the one who gives me this present, and I’m grateful every day.

I don't think God ever intended us to truly retire. What I mean is, retire from a job yes but never retire from working. Working can mean many things..... doing good for others, volunteering in the community, helping out people in our neighborhood, etc. Too much free time can be very unhealthy! LOL We should always be willing to give back a little of our free time. I can't wait to retire and help orphans. That's what I want to do with all my free time!!!

I'm not sure I agree, but I don't actually disagree either. Even God took Sundays off. :-) I think when we retire, we're supposed to focus on fulfilling our unique purpose in life—whether that's helping and giving to others or creating art that others enjoy or whatever.

Retirement is the best thing ever invented! And I really, really, loved my job, too… However, there is nothing as sweet as having every day be Saturday, and every night Friday night ; )

You're so very, very right. My son and mother lived with us for most of the years after I retired. But he's moved out, and she passed away, so now I'm even retired from care-giving duties. My new motto is, "Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow." :-)

I cannot wait !!!!!!! I , too, have a lady come clean twice a month, and NO, that is not stopping when I retire---what a lovely palette this made =)

LOL! And retirement is especially fun when you don't have to spend 24/7 with someone else. Talk about freedom! Thanks for the sweet compliment. :-)
