Description
If you have never grown hostas, you should consider growing them. They're generally grown for their foliage, since the texture colour of their foliage is quite spectacular. They do well in light to heavy shade, and are very drought tolerant once established.
The only caveat here is that deer (a.k.a. cloven-hoofed menaces) love to eat the leaves. You come out one morning or afternoon to see only spiky stems remaining of what were once beautiful plants! It is a very frustrating moment where, even if you are vegetarian or vegan, you wonder how much satisfaction you would gain from having a freezer full of venison! ;)
