When I was a kid, it was taken on faith that the sewers of New York City were populated by albino alligators, descended from kids' pet reptiles that had been flushed down toilets when the kids got tired of them. Read the "real" story here...aren't they cuddly?
The alligators in the photo, by D. Byrd, are at the Cincinnati Zoo. It looks like la dolce vita.
Good one!! + love palette! =)
Oh yeah - I heard of the mutant version... I think there was even a movie about it(?)
Wikipedia says: "However, most experts believe that a sewer is not a fit environment for any alligator, and they would be unlikely to be able to reproduce. The animals need warm temperatures all year round. Of course, the major assumption behind these assertions is that the alligators in question would never venture back to the surface again, choosing instead to occupy the sewer/storm drain environment exclusively, which is actually rather warm year round"
I think those working in the sewers would know, no?
