((( hugs )))

I'm rather anxious right now.

Air quality is very poor here in southwestern British Columbia. A massive number of forest fires across our province have fouled the air with very fine brown and black particulates. It's a little like Hell on earth: very hot, is sunny but we cannot see the sun or nearby mountains, and there are fires starting everywhere. The air is an eerie brown and the smoke outdoors makes us choke and become short of breath. We cannot open our windows to cool our houses. Fifty new fires started over the weekend. It's so bone dry here that fires start with great ease. There were five fires in our village in the last few weeks; three days ago, a house burned down a kilometre from mine.

I'm purchasing rooftop impact sprinklers tomorrow to help save our house from the inevitable wildfires. There is pretty good evidence to show that keeping things moist around your house give you a far better chance of saving it when a fire comes racing through. If you can keep it wet in the few minutes the fire takes to pass, you stand a good chance of saving it. Firefighters now routinely spray nearby houses and greenery when a house/forest is on fire.
