Occupation
Hey, I’m Jaclyn. It’s really nice to meet you all. I’ve never not known a time when I didn’t identify myself as a visual artist (I still remember my first “from life” drawing that I did in Kindergarten-it was of a pound puppy, and my teacher was upset that I was bringing toys to class so that I could draw them…. it actually was part of a grander scheme to justify bringing toys to class….). With the exception of one year where I was rehabilitating a broken hand, I can’t recall a time when I wasn’t making something, thinking about making something or pretending to make something. I eventually went on to miraculously earn a BFA from Cooper Union with a concentration in Painting and Photography. I have to say, I learned from some of the most prominent big guns in the contemporary art world, who I owe a lot to as an artist. In college, I worked as a teaching assistant in the Cooper Union Outreach High School Program with probably two of the most inspirational artists and educators in my life: Tony Gonzalez and Stephanie Hightower . I decided then and there to dedicate my life to cultivate that desire to create and inspire myself and others through all things visual. During all of my years as an artist, I’ve worked as a painter , photo assistant ,teacher, designer, photographer and costume designer. My recent work as a costumer has heightened my already established obsession with pattern design (which has always been evident in my painting, printmaking, photography and collage work). I implore you all…enjoy!
