Drift Studio Table Design Contest

I can't help myself in this situation but feel like an alien.It's a contest on our planet,isn't it?I won't delete mine anyway.Not a problem for me to donate in case it reaches the top.This year's been very tough so far and adding to the bad luck wasn't a surprise to me:))

Just wanted to tell the team at CL and Drift Studios "Thank You" for once again putting together a fun contest where we are able to share our designs and be recognized in the community while being able to get to know other fellow CL and see all of their beautiful designs as well. I know that it is not always easy to come up with new challenges and I just wanted to express my gratitude for your efforts! Whether I win or loose I am thankful to have this opportunity.

I hope it isn't too late to enter. It was very hard to figure out what pattern of mine would make for a great design. I picked colors that I thought would make for a great everyday table and nice warm ones that could match any room. Hope it meets with your approval! I like making designs that incorporate human faces, especially ones that are subtle and mysterious.

Great contest idea! I've been hoping we'd get to work with some kind of furniture design.

I only wish I'd heard about it sooner, given the current rules. Since the voting process began as soon as the first entry was submitted (as opposed to starting it after the submission deadline), all entries made after that are essentially penalized by not having as much time in the voting pool. Perhaps future contests can be announced to members via email -- so that everyone has a fair shot? Or maybe just tweak the timing so that voting doesn't begin until the submission process has been closed? Just a couple thoughts.

These probably don't have a chance to catch up on votes at this point, but I enjoyed the industrial design exercise:

I have to agree with you on the idea of voting/loving starting after the submissions are made.

Love your designs and the 3D visual example is awesome! We can really get a good feel for the table itself then. Cheers, Dana

Hi there. That is an interesting point and something that didn't occur to me. I'm sure Colourlovers will weigh in and be glad to hear your comment. They set the contest structure but I can tell you they really seem to be super committed to their user experience and their community. It has been refreshing actually. One thing I will point out is that the first place prize is picked by Drift Studio and will be done after the last submission, so you definitely have a chance for that. Thanks!

Thanks Dana, glad you agree. And don't get me wrong -- the contests have improved a lot in the last year or two (such as randomizing the gallery). It just needs one small adjustment.

@Tiandu: using graphic design software. (Coming from an agency background, I'm just used to mocking things up. Sometimes creative presents better in it's intended form.)

Hey Brent. The comment about contest structure was for the CL community (team/lovers) -- not directed at you. We usually post feedback like that here so that others can speak up, and so the the CL team will know if there's consensus around something.

It doesn't work very well? =( What am I missing? It complains the pattern I download from COLOURlovers isn't big enough. Even when I enlarged it so your interface doesn't complain that the image is too small, the pattern is not shown correctly on the table. It hangs off the table, halfway in the air. (I did resize the image before posting it, but didn't want to go too small.) I'm using Firefox 16.0.2 for the record.

Email me what browser you are using and the version which you can find in the about section, to brent@driftstudio.com and we will trouble shoot the problem with you. Probably better over email than via these posts. If you are using safari on an apple, try a SHIFT+CMD+R to reset your cache and see if this helps. We'll get you rolling.
