ADVICE FOR PATTERN CREATORS:

MAKE PATTERNS SEARCHABLE!

>> BACK TO INDEX of TUTORIALS
TRICK: HOW TO QUICKLY COMBINE ANY PATTERN + PALETTE

HOW?

1) Tag your templates!

Add:
>> Your name as tag (so we can search by creator)
>> many descriptive tags
+add many tags that could relate to the pattern, used shapes, style, what it is... (eg. circles, squiggles, geometric, rabbit, sky, landscape, rectangle, symmetric, classic, cubes, volumes, shadow...)

A tag can be multiple words.
Tags are comma separated
But don't abuse either! Don't add the tag frog if your pattern doesn't show any frogs!

This example is easy to tag, but for abstract patterns you could add tags such as : abstract, circle, square, vertical, halftone... See more about tags

'Tags' are the same as webpage keywords - without them they won't show up in search results!

RESULTS
Doing this would enable lovers to type what they want and get all the patterns, eg.. landscapes with flowers made by anyone or a specific creator's pattern, all listed.

So now your pattern should show up. eg. if you search 'prax+flower' in the pattern creator you'll see all Prax's flower templates listed, precisely these. (praxicalidocious adds the tag 'Prax' as name)

Not being able to do this has been driving me crazy all week. Glad I sort of randomly stumbled across the post (I wasn't even actively searching, just saw it... serendipitously). Thanks!!

YAY!! The combine pattern/palette tip has been mentioned in CL's blog!! =)

thank you evad!

How can I thank you enough for your help? You write so well, present clarifying visuals - for someone like me, it is a huge gift. I was a graphic designer years ago - no computer. Now, I am trying to learn the basics, and it is nice to find people who are willing to share what they know. Thanks!!!

YCC once again you have taken the mystery out of things for me THANK YOU

careywinkle

Yeah, that's undoubtedly the most mind-blowingly-helpful thing I've heard in the last six months, probably! Hahah. :o)

I love this! I've been keeping a list of usernames who I know make patterns I like to search on, but this is so much better! I can just make a list of patternID strings!
Seriously, SO HELPFUL! :oD

I'm having a problem with the triangle tool under "basic shapes" and am wondering if anyone else is too. Whenever I use it and hit the first "save", it's completely distorted in the preview (before naming and saving again to publish).

In the pic below, at the top is a simple triangle drawn in the pattern maker. Below is what it looks like distorted in the preview window. It always has the same distortion...Anyone else?

BTW, I tried several other shapes and don't seem to have any problem with them: just this one.

Yes, that's a recent bug
Just ignore it, it's only in the preview - when you apply the colors, it should be all right.

Is there still no way to delete our templates?
