Right now I have Inkscape, which I figured out how to get it to blur. BUT, I do have Illustrator as well and am willing to dig into that.

Your blurry shape probably uses some kind of style/multiple colours resulting in something called a compound shape, which is too complex for seamless to handle.
You will need to find some way to reduce and flatten the shape if you want it to import properly.
Most of the 'circular gradients' you see in seamless are actually many-rayed stars/polygons, which trick the eye into perceiving them as gradients.
