I think I understand the reason for this site. It is to create patterns and colour palettes to be used for art, as in if anyone has trouble knowing what palette to use they can come to this site, is that right?
I want to create a pattern but I can't seem to find the vertical format that I see most people use in the Browse More Pattern Styles...

Could you show me a pattern that uses this vertical format?

You might wish to check out this group: Sharing the Love it has a lot of information on how to use this site.

I think you mean Palettes. Go to the Palette tab and click "Create New".
