So I'm TERRIBLE at picking colours (or perhaps it's just the organising them part)....and I was getting really upset last night about it. One of my admins asked if there was any object in the house I loved the colours of. I immediately cheered at the thought of my insane doonah (USA: blanket) cover. She told me to make a palette from it, and to humour her I did. I LOVE it.
But the thing now is....putting it into the web page. So far I have The dummy page and the page I'm working on. But I've had a few complaints about the background....I've been having SO much trouble finding one and then I finally find one I LOVE and everyone winges at me... So I compromised, and put up a poll so people could vote. I've asked some of my friends to vote (you don't have to be a member to post or vote). But I don't fancy a plain background. I don't want something busy but I want to stick to my palette... and I want it to still be me too. I'm really stuck so if ANYONE has even the smallest idea...I'd really love to hear it.. ![]()

Why don't you fancy using a neutral color for the background? Sometimes, what works is not necessarily what you personally like. ![]() ![]() ![]() Alundra Alundra wrote: 3 Sep, 2008
^ but it's a personal site, so I have to personally like it or theres no point :( ![]() ![]() ![]() GreenMyEy… GreenMyEyes wrote: 3 Sep, 2008
I like your colors very much, but I do find them distracting. Perhaps they just take up too much room. Maybe you could try putting them in a much narrower strip down each side. They'd be visible, but perhaps not so busy. And the colors are used throught the rest of the site, so they wouldn't disappear. ![]() ![]() ![]() Alundra Alundra wrote: 2 Months Ago
Like halve the width of the sides?
I can do that if you think it will help :) ![]() ![]() ![]() Alundra Alundra wrote: 2 Months Ago
It didnt really help...
Blue seems to be winning in the poll so I just changed it to blue :( ![]() ![]() ![]() pi pi wrote: 2 Months Ago
i would like to suggest something other than colour scheme related, if i can (i'm not very good with website colours and had to seek for the advice from other colourlovers as well). i don't know if you are done working on the graphics yet, but i've noticed that these rounded corners look a little bit rough, so you might want to fix that. ![]() ![]() ![]() Alundra Alundra wrote: 2 Months Ago
Yeah I see what you mean, it was probably all the colour changing I did to them before I got my colourscheme. If you want to suggest another you can :). ![]() ![]() ![]() SimplyCom… SimplyComplex wrote: 2 Months Ago
Are you designing on a huge monitor? Every thing is so BIG AND IN YOUR FACE. And the colors assist in that... You could try a striped background... maybe a washed out version of the same colors. The colors are much too random IMO... pick 3 of the 5 and use the other 2 colors to tie the other 3 together... Its really hard to use that many main colors. ![]() ![]() ![]() Alundra Alundra wrote: 2 Months Ago
I dunno how to do that (pick 3 colours) lol...
I do have a huge monitor, but I think when I chose the font family it picked a bigger size than I wanted so I have to fix that when I get around to it. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Coole… The Cooler wrote: 2 Months Ago

pick 2 or 3 and then use a tint and shadow of one them for your 4th and 5th colors. I definitely agree with SimplyComplex, things need to quite down and get smaller, you can still get a lot of personality with a clean design and neutral colors. Maybe a palette like this I love these 2 palettes! I was having trouble coming up with some examples... ![]()
