This thread has been established in the hopes of cleaning up the Gelaskins contest thread. :)

The subject is polarizing enough that I feel it deserves it's own thread - with the added bonus that those interested in following the contest aren't forced to also watch the debate. :)

The original discussion came about because the recent Gelaskins design contest has allowed template creators to use palettes that did not belong to them, but it did not allow palette creators to enter with templates that did not belong to them.

Several palette creators felt that this created unequal levels of IP and rights protection amongst members of differing skillsets, while others felt for a variety of reasons that the two types of IP (Colour and Template) did in fact constitute differing levels of IP.

It would be helpful to the discussion if you begin by identifying whether or not you see yourself as a template creator, and if not, whether you intend to try your hand in the future.
