I actually found the cl twitter first and then went from there.

sweetlee97

I found it via a previous instructor's direction to combine colors a couple years back

tatun

i was looking for some nice wallpaper for my android phone and the app Patterns wallpaper use the patterns most loved ones

I found CL from an officemate. It was an on and off thing with CL. Right now though, I know that if I'm going to avoid any creative burnout (which happens often from work), I will have to be inspired most of the time. CL provides that awesome tool to be inspired. <3

I found you while looking for a good palette app for iphone/pad. WebOS / Palm had a great one, still haven't found one I like as much. This site is fun and inspirational. Neat tools, etc. Made making my palette for a new branding job even more fun! Thanks...

Islandtile inc.

Found it while searching for acrylic paint.

I need a place to rant!!!!! Right here is as good as any.

How come lately I've been getting a LOT of people who create a CL account, love one of my palettes or patterns, and then disappear off the face of the planet and never return to CL again? They might have 1-3 loves, no creations, and then just keep their account up, never bothering to upload a picture or write anything in their info.

I am SO CURIOUS how they found CL. If you're listening Darius, could you sometime in the future post some web statistics of the most common places that refer people to CL other than the obvious like google and direct traffic? Thanks so much for listening! I'm guessing places like pinterest, polyvore, flickr, and facebook would be pretty high on the list.

diva42

I noticed that too, why its happening makes one wonder...

Strange,
I found CL, when searching Google for stained glass. One of my art medium's is mosaic,
And use a lot of stained sheet glass and CL, came up in the search. It may be just a case
Of flakey people? Or their attention span is one of a 10 month old cocker spaniel on ritalin.

Hi Sundancer,

I felt the need to respond to your rant. First, while I've set up my account, I haven't been active lately. While I enjoyed this site immensely, I've also had major life changes going on that required my time and attention. When I'm online, I spend me time elsewhere, right now.

I have a bunch of color palettes that I want to create, and I will when I feel like it, on my own time.

Perhaps there are others that will come back when they feel like it. Perhaps they have issues going on. Maybe other interests are more of a priority for them right now. Or, maybe they've simply changed their mind about participating in this forum.

My question for you, is with all due respect, why are you taking these people to heart?

Hmmm. Good question, Terr. The truth is: I don't know why actually. It's just been happening a whole lot. Tons of people with just ONE love. I'll be the only love they clicked on the whole website. It's almost like a fake person or something. I want to know why they created an account. Did they stumble across my pattern and like it SO MUCH they created an account just to love it once and then they were on their merry way or its that WAY too prideful and selfish to think that someone loved my pattern or palette enough to create an account just to love it? It doesn't really seem plausible so I'm wondering the story behind it. I wish people left a little note on their info about why they left. I want to get to know people and they are a complete mystery if they don't tell us anything on their info. I like to visit people's pages now and then and if it says, "SO and so hasn't logged on in a month," I worry about them and if they are okay... especially if it's a colourlover who usually comes on at least once a day.

OrigamiMei

I'd create an account just to love one of your palettes any day, Sunny. :P

diva42

Oh and I found this place a long time ago but there wasn't all the patterns we now have so I got busy with other things, that and I sucked at colour still trying not to suck but you know anyway I came back because I kept getting emails and the rest is history as they say, but I do take breaks and come back and create like a maniac lol

Well first, thanks for not ripping my head off, lol.

Second, here's a perspective for you: You should feel tickled and honored that someone might create an account just to show you some love! Maybe your works
create so much emotion in them, they just have to let you know right there an then.

On that note, maybe they like what they see so much, they are intimidated and they feel that they could NEVER create work like yours or like others. Then, they go away.

Or, it could be about a million and one reasons. Since this is an artistic forum, no one is going to share intimate details about their lives, you know? It's not that type of forum.

Now, if you want to get to know people, simply patiently and politely send them a message telling them so. If you notice that they've been gone for a while, send them a message and encourage them to come back and create something. Share a personal contact email or Twitter, or whatever while you're at it. Encourage them if they are scared about creating something. Whatever you do, don't get angry or hurt!

Why would someone want to tick you off or hurt you when they don't know you?

OrigamiMei

If this is going to turn into a therapy session, could I sit in free of charge? Hopefully you'll be handing out some antidepressants as well? :P

Terr

No antidepressants, just sharing some positivity (hopefully)

It beats being angry over strangers on forum, right?

OrigamiMei

It does!

hey_hey_hello

Putting in my two cents on the subject! I've had this happen a lot too. People with only one love and nothing more. I'm kinda starting to think that they're bots? Am I really the only one who thinks so? It happens on other social forums so why not here... I've had the same thing happen on Tumblr for example. Fake accounts following with nothing uploaded on them and so on. Kinda annoying to be honest. I would like my creations to be loved by actual people...

But to answer the actual topic of discussion: I've been here for five years. I cannot for the life of me remember how or where I found CL... I love how much it's developed though! Compared to what it is today this place was a wasteland back then.

rblue85

I beg to differ. I have been here for 5 years now and to me CL at the beginning was not a wasteland, but the place where all my internet friends were. It was a place where you could be yourself and let it come out in your palettes. Now it seems more and more of our original smaller group is leaving and some of the creativeness has left with each one of them. :(

YES!!! *Sob* Obviously, I joined later rblue85, and I haven't been with you since the very beginning but a lot of people I was friends with in the beginning who were such an asset to CL have left like YCC2106, zsorzsi, oppouline.... the list goes on and on.
