Your website has grown to the point where you know you need to separate pages into categories and subcategories. A mega menu is a perfect solution for a larger business to business (B2B) website. You can showcase the various areas without taking up too much real estate on your landing page.
In a recent survey, 94 percent of consumers said that if a website wasn't easy to navigate, they would leave that site and go to another. People have very limited time these days between work, raising a family and personal pursuits. Anything you can do to improve and speed up the experience on your website benefits your conversion rates.
Once you decide on a mega menu, knowing how to create it is the next step. Here are five different ways of designing an expandable menu for your website and a few examples of how other brands created theirs.
A mega menu is only useful if users can easily find the expanded menu. There are a couple of ways to activate your mega menu, including clicking on a tab at the top of the page or simply hovering over it. Keep in mind that users expect your navigation structure to be near the top of the page, so your mega menu activators should also appear near the top of the page.
One method is adding a navigation bar showing the main categories on your site. If anyone hovers or clicks on one of those buttons, the mega menu expands and appears.
DBS Interactive features a mega menu on their website. Users can choose from Capabilities, Clients or a view of their Portfolio. If you hover over Capabilities, a drop-down menu appears. Pause on the tab long enough and it takes you to the page with full information on the services they offer to business clients.
Don't try to get too cutesy with the wording of your categories. Have you ever visited a site with a theme, but the pages had such strange names that you didn't know what they were for? Instead, stick with basic wording such as "Shop" or "About Us."
If you're unsure what words to use, check out the searches people do while on your home page. What are the words they hunt for? Also, check out the wording on other popular sites. The words people are used to seeing in navigation bars on sites such as Walmart.com or Amazon.com are good choices for you as well because they're already familiar.
Think CTAs are only for the bottom of your page? Think again. Expandable menus are the perfect location for a CTA. Your customer has already taken one action, so asking them to take the next step makes perfect sense.
McCall Handling places a call to action so users can "Get More Info" right in their mega menu. Click on the category "Warehouse Solutions" and you'll see choices for subcategories such as overhead doors, dock levelers and vehicle restraints. You'll also see a bold CTA button calling the user to find out more about what they have to offer.
One of the great things about a mega menu is that you have a much larger space to work with than if you used only tabs on a navigation bar. As the menu expands across the screen, you now have an opportunity to add directional cues like arrows or category indicators such as icons.
Imagine an "About Us" category, for example, that drops down into an expanded menu and features an email with a letter icon, a phone number with a telephone icon, and a physical address as well as links to more information about your brand's history.
You can move a user through your site simply by giving them arrows as directional cues on where to head next. In a fast-paced world, this may make the difference between the buyer completing the journey on your site or bouncing away. Fellow business owners are just as busy as you are, so pay attention to the steps that get them from Point A to Point B the quickest and show them how to move there.
Designers sometimes make the mistake of creating for a larger screen and forget about the many people accessing the internet via mobile devices. The most recent stats show that 52.2 percent of all Internet traffic is mobile. If your site isn't optimized for mobile, you're missing out on about half of your potential traffic. However, you also must consider how a mega menu looks on smaller screen sizes and if your expanded menu accounts for variables such as the device being used.
Fortunately, creating a responsive site isn't hard. The mega menu may look different for mobile, but it should have text and buttons large enough for a human finger to press and navigate through. Test out all aspects of your menu for smartphones and see how it looks.
BuySwings.com is a website catering to organizations and businesses with playground equipment. They sell items such as seats and accessories. Their mobile site adapts perfectly for the user. Instead of showing the different categories in a nav bar, there is an option for "Categories" near the bottom of the screen on your mobile device. Click on the text and a page pops up with the categories of "Swing Seats," "Swing Set Hardware," "Accessories" and "Slides," or you have the option to shop by brand.
If your site has multiple categories that don't fit easily onto a single line, it may be time for an expanded menu. Only you can determine if a mega menu is the right choice for your website. Testing out different options with your target audience is a great first step to figuring out whether this option is best. Either way, you now have the tools and examples to create a mega menu that draws in users and keeps them coming back for more.

Every color is a story - what role colors play in this game and how can they help you speak to your audience?
White is known as the Switzerland of colors, neutral and universal. White is the color of virginity and pacifistic state of mind used most often in logos as negative space or text. If you combine it with dark blue, you get the world's most famous logo - Facebook, and when you add red, you get the logo of Pinterest.
Yellow can suggest different things, depending on what you combine it with. It can be cheerful and infantile, sunny, full of light and warmth. It is easy to get attention using this color, and it is the most popular color of the season. Darker versions are shining with credibility in IT or creative industries.
A true foodie color used often in the food industry logo (tasty food, fast deliveries, nice ambiance). Often used as a gradient color between red and yellow, to draw attention and stimulate urgency and alert mode. Just as yellow, orange is playful and warm, emotional color.

On top of these applications, pink is a sweet, sugary color, so it is often used to advertise candy or ice cream. For example, it is used in Flickr, in combination with light blue.
This magical color is one of the transeasonal colors we have written about before, which means it is always popular and always a good choice. It is a silver lining between cold features of blue, and all the warmth and heat from red. It's used to describe fancy, royal, sophisticated brands, especially in the industries used by women. Purple is also known for it's mystical and spiritual properties, useful for making people hooked and intrigued. If you like chocolate, it can also be delicious. Yahoo! uses purple combined with white.
Giving a cold shower to your audience is only possible with blue. Blue is your asset for cold and calming stories, showing security, reliability, and professionalism. Also, it is one of the most-loved colors in the world. Used mostly in medical brands, it leaves the impression of success. Just under yellow, blue is the most trendy color of this season. Fun fact: blue pigments are almost impossible to find in nature and synthesize. Used by popular brands such as Skype, Twitter, and 4square, all three in combination with white.
Green is the color of tomorrow! It represents nature, the Earth, rebirth, and healthy human behavior. Used mostly in circle formats, it stands for life and preservation. In other contexts, it can come across as naive, insecure and liable. However, the most common use is for ecology purposes and social responsibility.
Also an Earthy color, grounded, calm and stable, this color is used for furniture companies logos, but also real-estate and commerce. Natural and woody, this color is also well-known for cocoa and it's implications of chocolate and deliciousness. Brown is also warm and close to dark red colors, but dark enough to become neutral, like black.
Very fancy, stylish, and cold, gray is used for frames, thin lines, and backgrounds. Sometimes, dark versions of gray are used in logo design to avoid pitch black. For any color and tone you choose - there is a shade of gray that matches it perfectly! If you need a neutral color, I would always recommend using a shade of gray instead of white or black. Wikipedia highlighted the use of gray in combination with white.
This color is antagonistic, mostly used for its readability on most backgrounds. It is extremely powerful, especially since it's simple and smooth, as well as sophisticated. It is often used in logos, but mostly for shapes and word art, in combination with yellow (IMDB), white (Apple) and green (Starbucks).

Know how to say colour in 18 different languages? We do. And this year, it seems the French do too. Trendhim’s Colour Report ranks Europe’s most colourful countries in 2019.

We all know that the French generally put a great effort into the way that they dress, and that they excel in wearing a lot of black and grayscale shades to refine their minimal and modern look. But if you are planning to tour around the Champs-Élysées this summer, and expect to surround yourself in a sea of monochrome, we will save you from the Paris Syndrome; the French are buying more colourful accessories than any other country in Europe this year.
Reflecting on this year’s Paris Fashion Week Men’s, this information is hardly surprising. Between the 18th and 23rd June, the City of Lights transformed into the City of Colours as many vibrantly dressed local and international guests flocked to the streets of Paris to express the strong seasonal vibes of summer.
Off the streets and onto the SS20 runway, models representing French brands such as Louis Vuitton donned a range of colour palettes and patterns inspired by flora tones, including a range of different pink and blue hues. This coincides with Trendhim’s Colour Report; while France is recently one of the highest ranking countries for buying accessories of general colours from the summer palette, they are also notably buying the most pink accessories in Europe.
Our research shows that there’s an uptick in colourful accessories in both Europe and around the globe. Compared to spring 2018, an improvement of 2.21% more multicoloured items have been purchased this year (spring 2019). But while black didn’t factor into our ranking, it’s still the #1 colour choice in Europe. And for good reason – wearing black is an easy way to add contrast to bright accessories and let that one statement piece really take the spotlight. For example, black is a good way to lay the foundation for a vibrant bow tie or lapel pin.
But as black is the #1 ‘colour’ in every country on our list, France taking the top spot for buying colourful accessories means that this year they are consequently buying less black accessories. Colour is the new black; bad news for the Parisian selling black berets.
Whether you’re a top-ranking Frenchman, adept at the art of wearing colours, or an 11th-place-wherever, adding colour to your outfit this summer seems officially the right thing to do. Europe supports you, and so does Trendhim. Time to add ‘couleur’ in your life.
