Community Day: A Tribute Project for Sunmeadow & Latest Survey Report

A lot has happened this month already. This week I am going to keep it short and sweet as we have the holiday weekend ahead. This week I'll cover our last survey and a discussion about doing a tribute project for Sunmeadow's family. Thoughts and opinions needed on both subjects.

Community Survey #3: Results Report

In looking at the last survey responses, it's fun to see how COLOURlovers use the site in different ways be that from your desktop or laptop or mobile device.

We had about a 107 entrants to the survey, double what we've had before - Thanks to everyone who got involved. I will be skipping a survey this week in leu of the Easter weekend and the Moo contest.

I will be accepting open suggestions for the next survey which will be based on Groups. Anything and everything Groups related. So suggest away!

The Sunmeadow Project: A Tribute & Family Gift

As a dark cloud shrouded the COLOURlovers community with the sad news that one of our dearest members had passed away, the mass of ways to show our love, life celebrations and tribute to dear Sunmeadow as a wonderful artist and person, have been happening all over the site. It's touching to see everyone surround her passing with such compassion and devotion.

Suggestions have been coming my way to put together a physical tribute for her family. The best suggestion came from, Penina of the COLOURlovers on Spoonflower Group - a book (possibly a Blurb-style book).

This book would include her works of art on COLOURlovers, but I also thought it might be nice to also include notes of tribute from her fellow community members and closest friends on COLOURlovers as her father had expressed an interest in being able to come back and read through all the wonderful things members had to say about her.

Tribute submitted by COLOURlover hana* located on page 2 in the APC Group Tribute to Sunmeadow

The COLOURlovers Team is in support of a project we could gift to her family as a colorful piece of Sunmeadows artistic expression on COLOURlovers.com.

Will any other members in addition to Penina, be willing to assist in organizing this project? With over 6,000 palettes, 10,000 colors and close to 800 templates it will be quite the undertaking to filter through what to include and in what order.

I am also up for alternate  suggestions for a tribute piece. A quilt has crossed my mind, but I think a book would certainly be able to fully encompass all her beautiful works and messages of love and support by members. Thoughts?

Another wonderful tribute piece of Sun's palettes by COLOURlover, hana* in the APC group on page 3

Sunmeadow was such an intensely defined COLOURlover that the reality of her loss was so great to many who knew her well and even to those who did not. Let's give the gift that Sun gave us, to her family to cherish and treasure as well.

*Sunmeadows wonderful works of art and account will remain online.

Group Tributes List to Sunmeadow

SunmeadowColors | Palettes | Patterns | Templates

A tribute in Artist Palette Challenge (APC) - One of Sun's groups, now administered by WordofMouse.

FFP - SUNMEADOW, a tribute in the Freeze Frame Project Group administered by Gasp365.

Sunmeadow was honored in the March 2012 Remembrances, in the Remembrance Group administered by ketisse.

Sunmeadow Memorial HPP in the Haiku Palettes & Poetic Patterns dedicated to the memory of Sunmeadow, also administered by ketisse.

Sunmeadow Fields, a tribute section in The Anythings Group administered by American Women.

And lastly, a look back at Sunmeadows moment as CLAD (COLOURlovers Artist of the Day Group), also administered by American Women.

*Please let me know if I missed any.

I think Penina's suggestion is the best choice...A book with all Sunmeadowns beautiful work and her contribution for CL with her great templates will be a last forever gift for her family..It can include also palettes and pattern gift CL comunity made for her.
She supported CL in many ways, (with her templates, APC group, patterns, templates etc..)...I think this Book project is the best CL can do as a tribute for her.

Great input Any! Yes, I was thinking of a way to incorporate commemorative thoughts plus gifts from the COLOURlovers community. Probbably side by side. Like if someone just wanted to present a visual gift(s) with the title and author and / or sentiments along with it.

I may need someone to help me collect all of those. Possibly start a forum topic for collection or a Group to have an organized layout. Not sure yet. :)

Thanks again for your valued input. :) I think it would be a wonderful gift to her family. If it was my daughter, I would appreciate such a beautiful book too.

Hi Molly,
A book is a great idea. Glindathegoodwitch was using many of my cat patterns and I finally asked her "why"? well... she was making a book , calender book really, with a Cat theme and liked my patterns. She used shutterfly,

http://www.shutterfly.com/?cid=SEGOO.BRAND&mpch=ads

I had to go ont he site and buy the book, it had a lot of my artwork in it... I must say it came out amazing!

let me know how I can help !

Hi Molly! Doing something for sunmeadow's family is a lovely idea. I'd lean towards a book too - it's something her parents can share more easily with friends and extended family.

I'm not sure how helpful I can be because of other commitments, but I can certainly try to help if given specific instructions and deadlines!

American Women

I love the the book idea and commemorative thoughts!
All Inspiration from Sunmeadow!

Maybe the proceeds could go to a certain charity of the family's choosing?

Hi MOlly....I think a Book with sections will be great..for example a haiku section with ketisse's group, with palettes poems for her....and APC section too, with all the people who participated making palettes honoring her...A template section and so on...
I think sunmedow's family will be very grateful for this.

OrigamiMei

I would love to help with the book, Molly.

Agreed with all above suggestions. Would be honored to help with such a wonderful project.

The book idea is the best choice, I think. I can help with editing any grammar or putting the book together. My mom made a baby book for by brother via Costco and I don't believe it was expensive and it came out very nice. She also made one for her trip to Israel. Let me know if you need any help.

I think the book is a splendid spectacular idea!!!! The quilt is also a really good idea but I REALLY like the idea of a book. I would be more than willing to help with this project. We could get together her closest friends and ask them to send in 500 words or less (or what have you) that are encouraging and comforting about Sunmeadow. We could scatter them through the book, even put them on the palettes themselves like Jakyastik does. In fact, he could do it because he's really good at that sort of thing.

I don't consider myself honored to be one of Sunmeadow's "closest friends" but we were definitely friends and I'd be willing to share some words. I also could help sort through her art and pick my favorites that I think should be included in the cannon.

Also, I think offering the book for sale on colourlovers is also a great idea. American Women had a great idea about giving the proceeds to the family's choice of charity. :-)

This is also a super wonderful idea, Any!!!

How about a MOO card pack with a few of her top palettes and the proceeds can go to charity?

xeenyth

I like the book idea, with Sunmeadow's creations and tributes made for her too.

I'd be willing and happy to help out, too. <3

This is Sunmeadow's Dad again. My wife and I have been overwhelmed again and again by the kind words and sentiments expressed on this website regardng Sunmeadow. It has be very gratifying to learn of her many on-line friends and to read the blogs and then find other threads with more exprssions and beautiful art. I am sure that this site was a tremendous help and support to her during her difficult times and her interactions with so many of you helped to keep her mind sharp and her personality alive.

We would be most supportive of a book featuring the templates, palettes, and colors of Sunmeadow as a tribute to her. Be sure to include all of the wonderful sentiments expressed in the blogs and other threads. We certainly would be willing to help in any way that we could. If you wish, we could providew a short biography of her accomplishments (outside of Colourlovers) and some pictures of her so that site members could placd a face with the name Sunmeadow.

Thank you again for all of your expressions of kindness. You have no idea what this has meant to us, her parents.

Sunmeadow was and still is a guiding light to most of us here in the CL Community! She will continue to inspire eternally!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Any contributions from you I'm sure will be very much appreciated.

God Bless!

Thank you so much Mr. Larson. It means a lot that you are willing to get involved. I was going to see about touching base with you to get some photographs and maybe some input from you (her family) as well... after feeling what the community would like to contribute.

We dearly appreciate your letting is get in touch with who Sunmeadow was outside of COLOURlovers. She gave this community a lot and will continue to do so.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I don't really have any specific "book-putting-together-skills" but I'm happy to help in any small way I can.

... And thank you to everyone for your feedback. I lean toward doing a Blurb book, simply because I can allow the book to be available / ordered by anyone else interested by putting it available on the site as well and I am most familiar with Blurb's publishing software and quality of finished product.

I don't want anyone to feel limited to having known her best as even those who did not know her directly, have known and been inspired by her indirectly.

Although I do love the idea of overlaying sentiments or combining them within them as part of the design process.

I have opened this group for COLOURlovers projects. The first project will be Sun's tribute book - I will start putting more details in to the book idea in here by next week.

(p.s. don't worry about the project cost. Blurb is easily affordable. I will just need help in compiling creations and tributes and organizing how the book should lay out.)

Wonderful idea! I would love to help, just let me know what to do and when it would need to be done.

Wow, I love the idea of a book! All of her wonderful creations/tributes in one place. :) As with everyone else, I would love to help in any way.

This is a wonderful Idea! I'm a relitivly new member to this site and I didnt know Sunmeadow but her pallets and patterns are such an inspiration. Im only sorry I didnt get to know her. If you need someone else to help out I would be more than happy too.

I love the idea of the book, too. I would be very happy to help - (I do best with specific tasks.)
It was very nice to hear from sunmeadow's dad. It means a lot that her family is in contact with us, and willing to share more of who she was outside of CL. It makes her feel not so far away.

Fabulous Idea!! So nice to hear from Jim & Sandi Larsen, too!!
We loved sunmeadow ♥

I am so sorry to hear of this loss - To Jim and Sandi - to lose a child is the worst nightmare I can think of - I do believe our bodies protect us a bit by allowing us some amount of numbness - I wish I had words to say to ease your burden, but there are no words - I know that realizing how many people loved and admired your daughter is a great tribute to you as her parents.

I will absolutely want to be involved in any projects that we, as this community can do as a tribute, to honor and respect your daughter.

With love and tears,

Diane Steinberg

I'm thrilled that a book will happen, and very grateful to Suzi's family for reaching out. I personally want to share with the Larsens what a tremendous contribution she was - and will be - to this community… with something you can hold in your hands.

Things are in a state of chaos for us at the moment, but my background is in design and publications (print!), so I hope I can be of *some* help in bringing a book together. I'll look at Blurb to get a better understanding of how they work.

cristinaana

I belong to colourlovers since 2009. But was only in 2012 that I really started loving this site doing my palettes and patterns and until now I have seen lots of wonderful people. I was not one of Sunmeadow friends. At the time I had no idea how to do follow or what following was all about. But I did had contact with Sunmeadow she was trying to help me with Seamless Studio. I was very surprise when she did not reply to my last "love note" I guess now that the reason was her being sick :( . My English is not very good but Molly if you need my help count me in.
God bless you all.
