Community Day: CreateMixedMedia Contest & COLOURlovers Survey
Happy Friday COLOURlovers! Today we are going to do something a little different for Community Day. First up, we have an awesome template challenge we've organized with one of our wonderful craft authors, Tonia Davenport, who comes over from CreateMixedMedia.com.

Secondly, each week I am going to feature the first of many community surveys. They are only going to be between 3-5 questions to help us understand what you lovers would like to see on the blog, on community posts, contests, you name it. Let's just call it a quick raise of hands on some topics. I'll promise to keep them short. In turn, we'll give one participant at random selection, a COLOURlovers T-Shirt each week.
This week's survey topic: What do you want Community Day to be about?
I can guess all day long what you guys would appreciate being featured on Community Day, but why not ask you? So let's show a raise of hands...and remember, one person will win a t-shirt!
CreateMixedMedia Template Contest

This is a template contest. That means you will need to use either Seamless Studio or Seamless Lite to make your initial submission.
The challenge is for you to design some numbered templates - a pattern design. These will be showcased for the first week of April, days 1 through 7.
- We will need a template for numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 - That's SEVEN WINNERS!
- You may include graphics within the template as long as the number you chose is legible (see how it will preview on createmixedmedia.com below).
- The theme to base your design on is "April Fools Day" and "April Showers" - combined or singly.
- Seven different winners will get a $25 gift code at the NorthLightShop (applied at checkout).
- Winners will be chosen by CreateMixedMedia.
CreateMixedMedia.com does an artistic feature on their homepage showcasing the days of the month, coordinated one week at a time - see below.
Days of the week shown on createmixedmedia.com
You will have from today (March 2nd) until Wednesday, March 21st to submit designs in the comments of this post.

I like the idea of highlighting COLOURlover members. I'm sure liddle_r is an awesome COLOURlover, but she has been featured COLOURlover for like over a year now or maybe even more over on the community page.

Don't you think the featured lover should be changed up every once in a while instead of always being the same person? What about COLOURlover of the week or COLOURlover of the day maybe? It shouldn't be chosen randomly either because someone who hasn't come on in over a year who only made one palette shouldn't be colourlover of the day.
I always enjoy adding new people to my list of followers. I'm especially more willing to add people who are very prolific and have a good eye for color and arrangement. If we featured template of the day or template MAKER of the day (or week) I could meet new people to add to my followers.
Thanks for listing!!!

I would like to know more about the people in the CL community -- not just with a single person being highlighted, but also cool statistical things like, countries represented, occupations, how they found colourlovers, etc.
Another community-ish thing would be to facilitate meetups. I know not everyone wants that, but those who do (like me) would love to build on the friendships we've made here online.
Oh, and also: I bet there are some really interesting ways people are using Colourlovers, besides us designers, crafters, artists, etc. Are there therapeutic uses? Scientific uses? … or …??

@sundancer, you bring up a great point. I think in general, that page has been sorely neglected and it's good to know that it was noticed! I will see what I can do with the . :)
@Penina I love the way you think outside the box. I will see what I can do. My brain is ticking away. :)
I will add to the post, but I realize I forgot to add:
The survey will close for winning a t-shirt, each Thursday at 12PM PST (noon). The survey will stay open indefinitely for collection though (at this point). I will contact the COLOURlover and announce the t-shirt winner each Friday in the Community Day post.

You may submit up to 3 numbered templates BTW (adding that now to the post, I had completely forgotten to mention that!)

We would really like to say 3 DIFFERENT numbers submitted from each contributor so that we make sure we get all of the numbers designed.
Feel free to submit whatever number templates you would like in any variation. I wasn't sure what would make this too limited or too overwhelming to understand and didn't want everyone to think they HAD to make numbers 1-7. Not everyone has that kind of time.
I can see that this is going to morph a little over the course of the weekend and next week and maybe we'll get to do another one of these and have more clear rules on how YOU guys would like it to go. :)
I am hoping we can get the word out on this and get some more acknowledgment on it - I think the survey kind of took precedence on this post. :)
Can't wait to see what you come up with! (remember the theme is both APRIL FOOLS & APRIL SHOWERS)

Numbered Pattern Inspiration!
I decided to go dig up some inspirational numbered pattern designs from Spoonflower.com to get some creative juices flowing.
sources: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
And some inspiration from COLOURlovers Templates with numbers:
....and last but not least, I discovered some people creating their own type of fonts using Seamless Lite via Shapes. I thought this could boost some ideas so that you don't feel stuck using the font selections within Seamless - you can build your own!

Penina, that's SUCH a great idea!!! I second this! Let's see visual pie charts and stuff showing male to female CL users, occupations, country, state, age, etc. We could also do surveys once a week about yourself like why do you like colourlovers, what's your favorite thing about colourlovers, and we could make graphs showing the results the next week with a new question! :-)
